Advisor – Programmes and Innovations

Piyumi supports CREA’s Feminist Leadership and Movements programmes, focusing on the Women Gaining Ground consortium and East Africa initiatives. She advances CREA’s mission by building leadership capacities for activists and organisations. Piyumi co-authored Challenging Global Power Asymmetries: Insights from Feminist Organising for Decolonisation Initiatives (2023) and represents CREA as co-chair of the Generation Equality Forum’s Action Coalition on Feminist Movements and Leadership.

Piyumi holds an MSc in Politics and Communications from the London School of  Economics and has 15+ years of experience in gender development. Previously, as Program Manager at Womankind Worldwide, she worked with partners in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Nepal. She led a FCDO-funded land rights program in Uganda and authored Solidarity through Sisterhood: Learning from the Eco-feminist Project. A Sri Lankan-British feminist with global experience, Piyumi starred in the 2005 film Aksharaya.
